A trip to Gothenburg

August 9th.  Took the train to Gothenburg just for something to do.  It’s our last day in Falkoping and then we head down to Höllviken for three days.  The trip to Gothenburg was non eventful.  Just another big city full of people.  So we wandered along the water for a while and then through the pedestrian part of the city.  Found (don’t we always). a nice Irish pub and spent almost two hours .....first sipping on expensive beer and then ordered lunch.  The first decent burger we’ve had so far.  We spent two hours there just to kill time until we could catch the train to take us back to Falkoping and also because we could pee for free.  Everywhere you go costs anywhere from 5 to 10 kroner to use the toilets.  10 kroner is equal to $1.40 Canadian so for those prices you want to really have to go.  So at the Irish pub I went four times in two hours so I feel like I reduced the cost of my lunch.
So we still had another three hours wait to catch our train and we just couldn’t bear it .  So we decided to get on the first train for Falkoping and play the dumb tourist if we got questioned.  On the train into Gothenburg no one checked for tickets so we thought we would likely be okay.  So of course we weren’t on the train going home for more than ten minutes when the ticketmaster came by. So we put on our best old persons tourist faces and looked dumbly at him.  He looked at the tickets for a while and then informed us that not only were we travelling at the wrong time,  we were travelling with the wrong train company.  After that we didn’t have to pretend to look dumb.  But that nice young man pointed out our mistake and said that it was okay.  Just don’t make that mistake again.  You know...... I wondered why that train was blue and silver instead of bright yellow.  Anyway we got home earlier than expected so that was good.
Up early on the morning of the 10th,  had a big breakfast,  and pilfered enough buns, cold cuts, cheese and fruit to make a lunch.   It was a beautiful morning for a drive which was nice.  We went through the same routine coming south as we did going north.  Traffic stopped for highway maintenance.  One was for two men with two huge trucks blocking the right hand lane to pick up garbage on the side of the highway and the other was to pave a small area in the median between the two sides of the freeway.  Traffic was back up for miles.  Absolute insanity!
So we arrived in Höllviken later than expected.  But “oh well”.  Stopped by Peter’s Pub for a beer.  This is the same place we had lunch when we were here last week.  Doesn’t really look like a pub but a really nice homey restaurant.  You can sit on the deck and watch pedestrians stroll or ride by and see the ocean as well.
We found our new air bob after a few trials and we met by our host Bjorn.  Seems like a nice enough fella but the accommodations are the poorest we have had so far.  The place is tiny, tiny, spotlessly clean and quiet.  But very stark. Everywhere we have been the host leaves you a little something to get started.  Maybe half a roll of toilet paper, a few cooking basics such as sugar, salt and pepper.  We have even been a couple of beer and a bowl of fruit.  This place has in the form of food. A part bottle of cooking oil and a salt shaker.  Maybe 10 sheets of toilet paper and that’s it!  So our first stop was to the store for toilet paper before they closed.  Other than that the cupboards have a vacuum cleaner and lots of cleaners because we were informed that we are to vacuum the place,  clean the toilet inside and out,  wash the fridge, microwave and countertop.  Wipe down the shower as well.  Oh, and don’t forget to have a good time in our house!  We also have to pay for the sheets and towels.  You can imagine how our conversation went last night.🤬
We are now getting ready to head out for a walk and maybe a drive to another little town.  So at least we are going to follow their instructions to have a good time!
