Last day in Telleborg

Got up to another day of sunshine though it was not forecast.  The gods are smiling on us.  It’s much like the weather in Vancouver when the weather is good.  We are just a block or so off the Baltic Sea so there is always a lovely breeze.  We took a walk downtown this morning just to see if we could find the System bolaget which is the Swedish liquor outlet.  Nobody told me that you couldn’t buy alcohol in the grocery stores!  At least not until Saturday afternoon at 4:00.  Apparently the government has a monopoly on liquor sales.  So they are open from Monday to Friday from 10:00-6:00.  And on Saturdays from 10:00-3:00.  Closed on Sundays. Just when I was starting to like this place.  But you can get a drink for a nice big price at a restaurant or bar on the weekend.  Thankfully I had a half bottle of wine at home which will do until tomorrow morning at 10:00.  We check out of here tomorrow morning.  Hope to be on the road for Falkoping around 10:00.  Ian would like to be away earlier but there is no way I am missing out on the 10:00 opening of System bolaget.  Poor system if you ask me.  So Ian says why don’t you just wait until we get to Falkoping but there is no way I’m going to risk that.  There is only one in town and just my luck it would be closed for some reason. It’s amazing how different it is from country to country.  Also in Copenhagen they smoke everywhere.  Including the bartenders while they pour your drink.  I’d forgotten how smoky and smelly bars used to be.  So we get to Sweden and apparently it was the same here until two months ago when they passed a non smoking law.  Anyway, apart from their stupid drinking laws,  it’s a wonderful country.
So after checking out the System bolaget (weird name for a liquor store) we took a drive to another small town called Ystad. Also right on the ocean. Just lovely but seeing as how it was Sunday just about everything was shut down.  But we did get a beer so it was a worthwhile trip.  The drive down reminded us a bit of New Zealand because of the rolling farmland and so little traffic and few people. We got home about 5:30 and walked downtown for a nice dinner and drink.  We are almost packed up and ready to go now.  Hope Falkoping is as nice as it is here.  But Trelleborg is on the southernmost tip of Sweden so further north is likely to be cooler.  We’ll see.
