August 3rd. First full day in Trelleborg Sweden.

We left Copenhagen just after noon on Friday the second of August after picking up our rental car.  Ian had everything prepaid so all that needed to be paid for was the toll for crossing the Oresund bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo, Sweden.  And that was a bit pricey.  I think about $150.00 Canadian.  But apparently the bridge is quite famous because they made a t.v. Series about a murder that takes place in the middle of the bridge. One half of a woman’s body is found on the Danish side and the other half on the Swedish side. So both the Danish police and the Swedish police have to join forces and work together.  Apparently there is four seasons so far so I guess the police here are slow workers.  Anyway, the young girl who helped us at the car rental was really keen to tell me all about it and was hoping I would like it.  She even took the time to find out where I could watch it. Netflix I think.  She was a lovely girl but I thought we’d never get out of there.
So we arrived in Trelleborg at about 1:30 in the afternoon.  The sun was shining and it was about 22 degrees.  What a nice surprise......it was supposed to be raining.  We took a 15 minute walk into the town, had a nice lunch in a Japanese restaurant and then wandered back to our cottage.  Our cottage is  just lovely.  The woman who owns it is an artist so it is filled with her paintings and sculptures as well as other artists.  We have an upstairs bedroom in the loft as well as a bathroom.  The kitchen is outfitted with everything we need.  And the gardens are lovely too.  There is a magazine here with an article about our hostess (Berit  Vikstrom) and pictures of her gardens.  So I guess she is a bit of a local celebrity.
Once again we woke to beautiful sunshine this morning.  We decided to take a drive to the next village which is called Hallvoken.  It’s right on the Baltic Sea.  Lots of people holiday there so there were lots of trailers and campers on the road.  We took a walk along the sea and I even stuck my toes in the water.  Surprisingly warm. Lunch was something I couldn’t even begin to pronounce but it was delicious.  Everyone here can speak English which is great.  Most of them speak a few languages.  Makes us feel a bit stupid!
