First day in Falköping August 6, Tuesday

Woke to rain this morning.  But that’s alright.  The forecast was for rain everyday that we are to be in Sweden but the first five days were stunning.  I just hope the forecast is wrong and that we’ll see some more sun.  We have been very lucky so far.  For instance ........yesterday we found a really nice System bolaget full of really good stuff. And I found wines that are no more expensive than home.  So I bought a box of Roodeberg which you can only buy in bottles at home.  I’m very excited.
So it was a long day yesterday.  The drive should have been much quicker but we were slowed by highway workers ( the term workers might be an exaggeration).  They were fixing a broken wire cable that runs between the highway lanes.  You know the one that’s supposed to prevent cars from driving across the median into oncoming traffic. Just brilliant don’t you think to do this work in the middle of the afternoon during the high summer season.  Anyway, there were eight workers standing around doing what looked like not much.  It took 40 minutes to get through the area where they were “working”.  And the area was about 100 metres long.  And the lineup of traffic was 27 kilometres long.  The second holdup took only ten minutes and we still don’t know what they were doing.  But the weather was beautiful and so was the scenery.  It was much like driving through B.C.  Down south it was all farms and fields.  Pretty flat.  But then we drove through areas that reminded us of the Prince George/ Quesnel area.  Also a lovely little place with beautiful old homes along the highway that could have been Grand Forks.
So today we are going to a very small village called Luttra which is where Ian’s grandfather was born and raised. That shouldn’t take long but we would like to find the house and get some pictures.  The rest of the day we will just wander the streets of Falköping. We took a short walk last night and it’s a very pretty place.  Population of only 16,000 or so.  Tomorrow we will take the train into Gottenburgh which is a large city.  That’s the plan anyway
Happy birthday to Ella Tycho and Linda Baran!🎂🎉🎈

  1. Thanks for all of that Linda, a good catch up. I wonder have you noticed signs at the road side of house driveways saying "Loppis"? I was up further north on Solleron and we didn't click that these signs meant private sale- like a charity shop but for themselves- until almost the end of the trip. ....although now knowing your sentiments about flea markets you may not be that keen🤨 hhmmmm.
Moving on.....See you next week Bid & Les XX
